Wideband O2 Sensor placement
The O2 sensor should be placed after the turbo but before the catalytic converter (if there is any). The O2 sensor doesn't like to be exposed to the high exhaust pressure, so a high flowing cat and free flowing exhaust system is preferable. The O2 sensor maximum operating temperature is 850C. The Zt-2 controls the O2 sensor heater circuit to maintain constant heater temperature regardless of the exhaust gas temperature, but cannot cool down the sensor if the EGT exceeds 850C at longer periods of time. As a result, we recommend welding the additional bung for the O2 sensor at least 12" down stream from the turbo. Standard size 18mm x 1.5 O2 sensors bungs are available at most exhaust shops, on line at Summitracing PN SUM-G2990, or could be purchased from us.

Every car is different. A large number of customers are getting away with placing the wideband O2 sensor in the stock O2 sensor location. This works fine as long as the EGT doesn't exceed 850 C for longer periods of time and the O2 sensor is located on the low pressure side (after) the turbocharger.
The simulated narrowband signal from the Zt-2 could be used to feed the stock Engine Control Module when replacing stock O2 sensor with the wideband O2 sensor.

Make sure there are absolutely no exhaust leaks before the O2 sensor. Any exhaust leak will change the O2 sensor readings.

Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor
The EGT sensor should be placed close to the cylinder head exhaust ports and before the turbocharger. Typically we tap the exhaust manifold with the 1/8 NTP tap and thread the EGT sensor directly into the exhaust manifold. The 1/8 NPT pipe thread seals fine if the exhaust manifold wall is thicker than 0.120".  For a thinner exhaust header wall, you may need to weld an additional 1/8 NPT steel bung. The steel 1/8 NPT fittings are available at your local home improvement store.
The exhaust manifold could be drilled and tapped without removing it from the car by carefully drilling then tapping the 1/8 NPT hole while having an assistant reving the engine to 2000 RPM. The turbocharger creates enough back pressure to blow the shavings out.

Be careful! If you try hard enough, the shavings will fall into the exhaust manifold and find their way out through the turbocharger blades. If you do not feel comfortable tapping the exhaust headers on the car, remove them!
Drilling the exhaust manifold without removing it from the car may damage the turbocharger. Do it on your own risk.
